Lead

THE PROBLEM

Traces of lead can sometimes be found in tap water because this heavy metal was at one time regularly used to build water distribution systems (pipes and plumbing). As a result, tap water can be contaminated with lead to varying degrees, depending on the length of time it spends stagnant in these pipes. Taking in lead can cause serious health problems.

Although lead pipes are gradually being replaced, there is still a significant risk of industrial pollution.
